Surfactants

Substances which reduce the surface tension of a liquid or the boundary tension between two phases to allow or support the formation of dispersions. Surfactants have one group which is hydrophilic while another group usually consists of residual hydrocarbon. The properties of the surfactants are primarily determined by the hydrophilic group.
