Glossary of surface technology
Hydrophilic
Hydrophilic means water attracting. A surface is hydrophilic it is has a greater surface tension than water (72 mN/m). Then, water spreads on the surface. Hydrophilic properties can be achieved by plasma activation or plasma coating. In any case, the goal is creating polar groups whose density at the surface is as high as possible. The opposite of hydrophilic is hydrophobic.
