Adhesion of two materials to each other due to intermolecular interactions. As strong an adhesion to the substrate as strong as possible is the decisive factor for the stability of a coating. In particular, the adhesive forces between the molecules of a substrate and the molecules of a coat must be higher than the cohesive forces within the coating medium. This can be improved by various methods, such as plasma treatment (⇒ Pretreatment).
