Glossary of surface technology
Hydrophobic
Hydrophobic means water repellent. A surface is hydrophobic it is has a smaller surface tension than water (72 mN/m). Then, water does not spread on the surface but contracts in a spherical shape. By means of plasma coating. ultra-hydrophobic coats can be generated from which water drops roll off like glass beads. The opposite of hydrophobic is hydrophilic.
