Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate is an amorphous plastic and the material with the best mechanical properties among the glass-clear plastics. For this reason, it is the preferred material for heavily used transparent components such as break-proof glazing, spectacle lenses and visors. CDs and DVDs are important products made almost exclusively of PC. In addition, dyed components with high aesthetic requirements can be manufactured from PC. Polycarbonate has polar properties and thus a relatively high surface energy. Accordingly, bonding and coating without plasma activation are possible. Polycarbonate is however made scratch-proof by plasma coating with DLCcoats.
