Fluorescent tube

Low-pressure gas discharge in a mix of the noble gas argon and mercury vapour. In the positive column of this discharge, the electron bombardment excites the mercury atom to produce intensive ultraviolet radiation. A luminescent substance applies to the interior of the glass tube converts this UV radiation to visible light.
