Glossary of surface technology


Absorption of particles of one phase in the volume of another phase. For example the absorption of atmospheric oxygen in water. (latin: absorbere = swallowed). Not to be confused with adsorption, which is the adhesion of molecules of a phase on the surface of a solid.
