SIMS

Secondary-ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) is a sensitive technique used to analyse thin layers. A surface is sputtered with energy-rich primary ions which, in addition to other particles, ejects secondary ions from the layer material so that they can be detected directly by means of mass spectrometry.
