Printing techniques

Many techniques are known to print surfaces depending on chemistry, profile, quality requirements, smoothness, required abrasion resistance and durability and more and more new technologies are developped.

A few special techniques are based on the diffusion of pigments into the bulk material of the substrates (sublimation transfer printing) but special substrate chemistry is necessary.

Because usually good adhesion of inks on the substrates is undispensable, preparation of surfaces is required. Plasma treatment provides methods to achieve maximum adhesion involving plasma cleaning, plasma activation of surfaces with a low surface energy (mostly plastics), plasma etching and plasma coating if an interlayer such as a silan coating may provide perfect adhesion.
