HMDSO

HMDSO (hexamethyldisiloxane) is a frequently used starting substance for the generation of long-lived anti-friction or protective coats by means of plasma polymerisation. HMDSO coating is a process for generation of hydrophobic properties that can even reach a contact angle of 110° on glass and even higher, depending on the substrate. HDMSO is the shortest complete molecule unit of the group of poly[dimethylsiloxanes] (PDMS). HMDSO consists of only the two trimethylsiloxane end groups without the dimethylsiloxane monomer unit which is repeated any number of times in PDMS.
