Epitaxy

Deposited coatings can grow on crystal substrates with a well-defined orientation with respect to the crystalline substrate in such a way that crystalline layers are formed. The prerequisite is that the deposited material can crystallise in similar way as the substrate. Epitaxy often occurs with PVD coating of silicon wafers. auf.
