Why is it advisable to treat abutments and dentures with plasma before insertion?
After the manufacturing processes in the dental laboratory, the components may be contaminated with hydrocarbons, oil residues, acids, mineral particles etc. Even after various cleaning processes in the dental lab, some of these residues still remain on the surface of the components when delivered to the implantologist’s practice. Unless removed completely, they may cause inflammatory processes, particularly in allergic patients.
By means of physical/chemical processes, the ion bombardment generated in the low-pressure plasma removes nano-scale organic contaminations. Bacteria and viruses are killed off, converted to the gas phase and extracted via the vacuum pump.
Also in view of the increasingly strict statutory regulations, plasma application effectively supplements the hygiene management in the dental practice.
Low-pressure plasma efficiently disinfects abutments, all prosthetic caps and superstructures, dental prostheses, dental auxiliary parts, bridges, prostheses, splints and orthodontic appliances.
It can also be used for used dentures sent in for repair, plastic prostheses, partial prostheses and implant prosthesis with possible fungal infestations.
