Dielectric Barrier Discharge


Dielectric Barrier Discharge” is a discharge in which an electrode is galvanically isolated. In most systems, a ceramic material with holes is used. DBD plasma allows for low-cost activation of large areas. However, this only works for easy-to-activate material. The power of the DBD plasma is not sufficient for materials which are hard to activate.

To generate a DBD plasma, high-frequency voltage is applied to the ceramics material. As a result, a plasma is generated in the holes of the ceramic. Now, an endless fabric tape, for example, can be passed along the ceramic. In this way, a very large surface is activated in a short period of time. Please note that ozone (O3) is generated with DBD. For this reason, it is imperative to use an extraction system with prolonged operation of DBD in closed rooms.
