VOOM HDTV Satellite Receiver

VOOM HDTV Satellite Receiver

The most important piece of equipment is the VOOM Set-Top Box (Motorola DSR-550).  This is the only Set-Top Box that VOOM currently offers.  This unit is also commonly known as a Satellite Receiver or an IRD (Integrated Receiver-Decoder).

The VOOM HDTV Set-Top Box is high-definition capable, with multiple outputs. All of the VOOM Set-Top Boxes outputs work simultaneously, allowing multiple outputs to different sources, as long as you are displaying the same image. The VOOM Set-Top Box supports resolutions of 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i.  It is also capable of providing 5.1 channel surround sound via either the Optical or COAX outputs, or stereo sound via the L-R RCA outputs.

The VOOM HDTV Satellite Receiver ships with a diplexer. The diplexer combines the satellite input and the OTA HDTV antenna, thereby necessitating only one cable from the satellite dish to the VOOM Set-Top Box.

The satellite dish is a circular 18” dish.  It has a very low profile and is not imposing.  It also has a space to attach an off-air antenna.  This off-air antenna is necessary due to the fact that this is how you will receive your local channels from VOOM.

*MPEG-2 Video Processing allows the satellite companies to reduce the bandwidth necessary by as much as thirty percent, which in turn frees up more room on the satellite. This allows them to put more channels on each satellite. The higher the compression ratio, the more channels you can have on the satellite.
